What is IBPS?
After the dissolution of Banking Service Recruitment Board (BSRB), Banks used to conduct examinations to fill the roles of clerks and officers. From 2011 onwards, IBPS is conducting common examination for selection of officers and clerks in nationalised banks in India. Currently IBPS conducts examinations once in a year for the selection of:

*Officers for RRBs (Regional Rural Banks)

Common Written Examination (CWE) and Common Interview
IBPS invites applications for CWE once in a year. IBPS has conducted CWE in 2011 and 2012. IBPS CWE Advertisement 2013 is expected to be published around July / August 2013. Banks used to conducted separate interviews based on the IBPS score for 2011. IBPS changed this by introducing a common interviews for successful candidates of CWE. Banks will be allocated candidates based on their preference and their combined score of CWE + Interview.
SBI and Associate banks
State Bank of India and its five associate banks are not part of the IBPS recruitment process. They conduct their own examinations periodically for selection of clerks and probationary officers.
