2. Avinash Chander, has been appointed as the new Scientific Adviser to the Defence Minister and Director-General of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) yesterday. He will also hold the post of Secretary, Department of Defence Research and Development. He succeeds V. K. Saraswat, whose term ended on 31st May. Dr. Chander, who was recently awarded Padma Shri, was behind the successful development of 5000-km range Agni-V, enabling the nation to join the elite club of five advanced nations. Development of Agni missiles in highly restrictive international control regimes was possible only out of his technology, perspective planning and efforts
3. Indian Air Force (AIF) has formally inducted Pilatus, PC 7 Mk II aircraft which was inducted by Jitendra Singh MoS, Defence at IAF’s premier Academy located at Dundigal, Hyderabad. This marked the first formal flight of the Basic Trainer Aircraft.
4. Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president N Srinivasan resigned as BCCI president and Jagmohan Dalmiya has been appointed as “interim president” today following the spot-fixing scandal that shocked the Indian Cricket fans recently. Dalmiya, a former BCCI and International Cricket Council (ICC) chief, is currently the president of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB).
5. Rajeev Shukla resigned as Chairman of IPL yesterday due to IPL spot fixing scandal. The resignation of Shukla came just one day before the emergency meeting of the BCCI working committee that was held today. He is an Indian journalist, political commentator, television host and the Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs and Planning, Government of India. He is also a Member of Parliament since 2000.
